Ramayana Discovery Tour

Day 01 – Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport / Transfer to Negombo / Beach Relaxation / Overnight in Negombo

Arrive in the tropical warmth of Sri Lanka and transfer to the coastal town of Negombo. Begin your pilgrimage by unwinding on the sandy shores or by the lagoon. As the sun sets over the Indian Ocean, reflect on the spiritual journey ahead. Overnight in Negombo.

Day 02 – Munneswaram & Manavari Temples / Ramayana Legends / Evening at Leisure / Overnight in Negombo

Travel north to visit the Munneswaram Temple, where legend says Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva to seek a remedy for the Brahmahasti Dosha (the sin of killing a Brahmin) after defeating Ravana. Continue to the Manavari Temple, the first place where Lord Rama installed a Shiva Lingam, known as the Ramalingam. Spend the evening exploring local folklore before returning to Negombo.

Day 03 – Transfer to Trincomalee / Koneswaram Temple / Shankari Devi Temple / Trincomalee Bay / Overnight in Trincomalee

Journey to the east coast to the magnificent Koneswaram Temple, perched on a cliff known as Swami Rock. This legendary temple is said to have been built by Rishi Agastya on the instructions of Lord Shiva and was later expanded by King Ravana, a devout follower of Shiva. Visit the Shankari Devi Temple, one of the 18 sacred Shakthi Peethams, before enjoying the panoramic views of Trincomalee Bay.

Day 04 – Transfer to Kandy via Matale / Spice Garden / Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic / Overnight in Kandy

Head toward the hill capital, stopping at a Matale spice garden to learn about ancient herbal remedies. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a spiritual cornerstone of the island. Conclude your day with a vibrant cultural dance performance, showcasing the traditional arts of the Kandyan kingdom.

Day 05 – Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple / Transfer to Nuwara Eliya / Tea Plantations & Gregory Lake / Overnight in Nuwara Eliya

Travel into the mountains to the Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda, built by the Chinmaya Mission on the hills where Hanuman is believed to have begun his search for Sita. Continue to the cool highlands of Nuwara Eliya, exploring the manicured tea estates and the colonial charm of Gregory Lake.

Day 06 – Seetha Amman Temple / Hakgala Botanical Garden / Divurumpola / Overnight in Nuwara Eliya

Visit the Seetha Amman Temple in Sita Eliya, believed to be the site of Ashoka Vatika where Sita was held captive. Look for the massive footprints on the rock bed, said to be those of Lord Hanuman. Explore Hakgala Botanical Garden and visit Divurumpola, the “Place of Oath,” where Sita is said to have undergone the Agni Pariksha (fire ordeal) to prove her purity.

Day 07 – Ella / Ravana Falls & Caves / Kataragama Temple/ Yala Safari / Overnight near Kataragama

Descend to Ella to witness the crashing Ravana Falls and the nearby Ravana Caves, where the king is said to have hidden Sita. Continue to Kataragama, a multi-religious pilgrimage site. This sacred ground is deeply associated with the legend of Lord Kartikeya, who is believed to have assisted Lord Rama in his battle against Ravana. Furthermore, explore wildlife at Yala National Park, you will get the chance to see elephants, deer, bears and leopards too.

Day 08 – Ussangoda Sacred Site / Transfer to Colombo / City Orientation / Overnight in Colombo

Visit Ussangoda, a striking red landscape on the southern coast. According to legend, this was one of King Ravana’s airports, and its scorched appearance is said to be the result of Lord Hanuman setting the area ablaze with his flaming tail. Later, transfer to the capital city of Colombo for a short orientation tour and shopping.

Day 09 – Sri Anjaneyar Temple / Kelaniya Temple (Vibeeshana Site) / Evening at Leisure / Overnight in Colombo

Explore the Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple, the only temple in Sri Lanka dedicated to the five-faced Hanuman. Later, visit the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, the site where Vibeeshana (Ravana’s brother) was crowned King of Lanka by Lakshmana after the war. Spend your final evening at leisure, reflecting on the sacred path you have traversed.

Day 10 – Final Breakfast / Last-minute Souvenirs / Departure from Sri Lanka

Enjoy your final Sri Lankan breakfast before heading to the airport. If time permits, stop for last-minute souvenirs to commemorate your spiritual discovery of the Ramayana trail before your departure flight
